Your vault stays on this device

Privacy Veil

A clear, room-by-room account of what Crel can see, what it stores beside your crystals, and what it never asks you to hand over — written for makers who seal moments without creating an account.

Opening fold

Why this veil exists

Crel is a keepsake studio that seals hand-painted scenes and optional personal photos inside spinning cut crystals. The Privacy Veil explains, in ordinary language, how information appears inside that craft: titles you type, tints you pick, photos you attach, voice notes you record, glow preferences you tune, and tallies the Gem Ledger counts from your own vault.

This page is shaped like the app itself — rooms, facets, and soft light — so you can scan it on a phone between sealing rites. It is a practical guide to the jewel box, not a stack of courtroom phrases.

Identity

No account, no profile wall

Crel does not require you to register an email, invent a username, or connect a cloud identity to use the Frost Vault, Freeze Atelier, Optic Lab, Gem Ledger, or Polish Room. There is no Crel social graph of your crystals and no public gallery that uploads your hoard by default.

Because there is no Crel login, we do not maintain a remote account file labeled with your name. The person who unlocks the device is the person who can open the vault. That simplicity is intentional: the studio stays close to the glass you are holding.

  • No mandatory sign-up before the first seal.
  • No Crel password stored for app access.
  • No cross-device cloud profile managed inside Crel itself.
What the vault remembers

On-device keepsake data

When you seal a crystal, Crel stores a local record of the craft: a title, motif or photo reference, cut, tint, clarity, bubble seed and count, cherish state, spin tallies, and related notes that belong to that gem. Drafts in the atelier — unfinished tint mixes, selected motifs, temporary photo file names — also rest in local storage until you seal or clear them.

Preferences such as glow level, slow drift, and sealing chime are saved so the case feels the same when you return. Optic bench dials for light sweep and dispersion remember the last playful setting on that device. Milestone progress in the ledger is computed from your local hoard, not from a remote scoreboard.

Media you choose

Photos, camera, and voice

If you place a photograph inside a gem, Crel keeps a local copy suited to the keepsake workflow. If you capture with the camera, the same idea applies: the image supports your crystal, not a remote feed. If you record a voice memo about a gem, the audio file lives in the app’s local folders until you remove the related keepsake or clear it through normal use.

Exporting a crystal still asks the photo library to accept a new image when you choose that path. Crel does not silently empty your camera roll into the vault, and it does not upload your album to a Crel server as part of everyday sealing.

  • Photo library access — only to pick or save when you ask.
  • Camera access — only for optional capture into a keepsake.
  • Microphone access — only for optional voice notes.
  • Declining a permission leaves that doorway closed; motifs still work.
What we do not chase

Boundaries of the jewel box

Crel is not built to build a marketing dossier from your vault. In ordinary use we do not ask for your home address, government ID, payment card, or a list of contacts so that sealing can happen. The studio does not need a continuous background portrait of how you move through other apps.

We do not sell your sealed scenes, voice notes, or preference dials as a catalog to other companies. Your bubbles stay yours. If platform analytics or crash tools ever appear in a future build, they should stay limited to keeping the jewel box stable — and this veil should be updated to say so in plain words.

Signals the system may add

Platform layers around Crel

Your phone or tablet already has its own privacy controls, backups, and store update channels. When you install or update Crel through an app store, that store’s own records of downloads and devices apply. When you use iCloud or another device backup tool you personally enable, those tools may copy local app data according to their own settings — that is your device ecosystem, not a Crel cloud gallery.

If you contact the studio by email, the message contents you send (and the address you use to send them) become part of that conversation so we can answer. We use that thread to help with craft questions, not to invent a public profile.

Children and shared cases

Soft guidance for households

Crel is a creative keepsake toy for thoughtful making. If a younger person uses the app on a shared device, an adult should help decide which photos and voice notes belong in the vault. Because there is no separate child account inside Crel, household care happens at the device level: who unlocks the phone, which albums are visible, and when the seed hoard should be restored.

Do not seal someone else’s private image or recording without their comfort. A crystal can feel intimate; treat it that way.

Retention on glass

How long local pieces stay

Keepsake records remain while the app and its local files remain on the device, or until you shatter a gem, restore the seed hoard, clear related media, or remove the app. Voice memos and photo files tied to gems follow that same local lifespan. Draft atelier state refreshes as you craft.

Uninstalling Crel typically removes its sandbox according to the operating system. Exports you already saved into the system photo library remain there under your album rules, because those images live outside the app once exported.

Your hands on the dials

Choices you can make

  • Deny or later revoke camera, microphone, or photo access in system settings.
  • Avoid attaching photos or voice notes if you want a motif-only vault.
  • Shatter individual gems you no longer want in the case.
  • Restore the seed hoard when you want the starter vault back and changed gems cleared.
  • Export stills you wish to keep elsewhere before a reset or uninstall.
  • Use device passcodes, biometrics, and OS user separations to protect a shared tablet.

These are craft controls as much as privacy controls. The quieter the vault you want, the fewer optional doorways you open.

Security of the case

Keeping the lining intact

Crel relies on the operating system sandbox to keep app files apart from other apps. Your device passcode and biometric lock are the primary lid on the jewelry case. We encourage you to keep the system updated, avoid installing dubious profiles, and treat exports of sensitive photos with the same care you would give any personal album.

No digital case is perfect. If you believe local files were exposed through a lost device, use the platform’s device-find and wipe tools, change related passwords on that ecosystem, and write to the studio contact if you need guidance about what Crel stores locally.

Where the studio is used

Because Crel keeps the vault on the device you hold, your keepsakes travel with that device when you do. We do not operate a Crel-hosted world map of sealed crystals. If you move between countries with your phone, the same local files remain subject to the device and store rules you already use.

Language in this veil stays in English so the wording matches the in-app craft voice. The rooms themselves — vault, atelier, lab, ledger, polish — are the same jewel box wherever you open them.

Changes to the veil

When we rewrite a fold

If Crel later adds optional cloud sync, collaborative vaults, or new sensors, this Privacy Veil should grow a new facet that names those changes in the same plain voice. We will not hide a new doorway behind old paragraphs. Continuing to use Crel after an updated veil appears means you have had a chance to read how the jewel box now handles light and memory.

Small clarifications — clearer lists of permissions, better descriptions of export, sharper notes about shared devices — may arrive without changing the core promise: your vault is local, your account is unnecessary, and optional media stays optional.

How to reach Crel

Questions about what stays on-device, how to clear a draft, what a permission prompt means, or whether a future feature will touch the network are welcome. Write with the device model if you can, and mention which room you were in when something felt unclear.

We read notes about privacy the way a lapidary reads a stone: slowly, looking for the grain. Thank you for trusting Crel with moments that deserve more than a scroll-past.

Final glint

The short form of the veil

Crel lets you seal keepsakes without creating an account. The hoard, preferences, drafts, and optional photos or voice notes live on your device. Sensors open only when you choose features that need them. Exports happen when you ask. We do not treat your vault as inventory to sell. If you need a human reply, use the studio address above.

May your crystals stay clear, your bubbles intentional, and your case lining private to the hands that unlock it.
