Keepsakes, frozen in light

Companion Charter

A living field guide for anyone who opens Crel, seals a scene inside a cut crystal, and turns it in the hand until the light rearranges itself.

Overture

What this page is

This Companion Charter describes how Crel is meant to be used, what you can expect from the jewel box on your device, and how we try to keep the experience calm, local, and clear. It is written in plain language on purpose. It is not a courtroom script. It is a map of the vault, the atelier, the optic lab, the ledger, and the polish room.

Crel is a keepsake studio. You choose or capture a moment, pick a crystal cut, tint the stone, trap a deliberate scatter of bubbles, seal the scene, and return later to spin it under new light. Everything that matters to your collection stays on the device you hold. No account wall stands between you and the first facet.

Doorway

No account required

You do not need to create a Crel account, sign into a cloud identity, or link a social profile to begin. Opening the app is enough. Your Frost Vault, drafts in the Freeze Atelier, optic bench settings, and Gem Ledger tallies live locally. There is no remote login gate, no password reset ritual, and no shared public profile for your crystals.

If another person uses the same device, they share the same local vault unless the operating system keeps separate user spaces. Treat the device like a physical jewelry case: whoever can unlock the phone can open the box.

  • Launch Crel and start sealing without registration.
  • Preferences such as glow strength, slow drift, and sealing chime stay on-device.
  • Restoring the seed hoard resets demo keepsakes on this device only.
Atlas of rooms

How the app is arranged

01
Vault

Frost Vault holds your sealed keepsakes in a staggered wall of crystals. Tap a gem to enter the spin stage, cherish it, inspect facets, sift relics, or shatter one you no longer want to keep.

02
Atelier

Freeze Atelier is where sealing happens: motif or photo, cut, tint, clarity, bubbles, and the sealing rite that freezes the scene into light.

03
Lab

Optic Lab lets you sweep light and play with dispersion across a specimen so you can study caustics and refraction without rewriting the sealed record.

04
Ledger

Gem Ledger tracks sealed counts, spins, cherished gems, motif atlas doors, and facet milestones that celebrate how far your craft has wandered.

05
Polish

Polish Room holds glow tuning, drift and chime toggles, provenance notes, and housekeeping for the starter vault.

Craft

What you may do inside Crel

You may create personal keepsakes for your own enjoyment, attach optional photos from your library or camera, record short voice memos about a crystal when you choose to, export a still of a gem into your photo library when you ask Crel to save one, and rearrange your relationship to each stone by cherishing, inspecting, or releasing it.

Hand-painted motifs such as dusk summit, tide garden, maple lane, aurora veil, koi court, and lantern rise are part of the studio language of Crel. You may also freeze a personal photograph inside a gem when you grant the matching device permission.

  • Use Crel for personal, creative, and contemplative keepsake making.
  • Export images you create for your own albums, messages, or journals.
  • Tune glow, drift, and chime so the jewel box feels like yours.
  • Explore milestones as gentle craft markers, not as a scoreboard against other people.
Care

What we ask you not to do

Please do not use Crel to harm others, to stash material that you do not have a right to place in a keepsake, or to attempt to break the app’s local storage in ways that corrupt other apps on the device. Do not present Crel-generated exports as official certificates, medical records, or anything they are not. Do not reverse-engineer the crystal renderer for the purpose of shipping a confusing clone under the Crel name.

Crel is a small jewel box. Treat other people’s photos, voices, and stories with the same care you would give a borrowed locket. If a photo or recording does not belong in your vault, leave it out.

Permissions

Device doors you may open

Crel only asks for camera, microphone, or photo library access when you choose a feature that needs them. Declining a permission simply means that particular doorway stays closed; the rest of the vault keeps working with motifs and local drafts that do not need that sensor.

  • Camera — optional capture of a keepsake photo.
  • Microphone — optional voice notes about a gem.
  • Photo library read — optional selection of an existing image.
  • Photo library add — optional export of a rendered crystal still.

You can change these doors later in the system settings for your device. Crel will not nag endlessly; it waits until the craft step actually needs the doorway.

Local light

Where your vault lives

Your hoard of keepsakes, preference toggles, draft atelier state, and optic bench dials are stored on the device. Crel is designed so the vault does not leave the phone or tablet as part of ordinary use. If you delete the app, uninstall storage rules of the operating system apply and local files may vanish with it. If you switch devices, bring your memories the way you would move a physical collection: by exporting images you care about, or by using whatever device backup tools you already trust.

Seed gems sprinkled into a fresh install are starters for the craft, not remote content pulled from a server each launch. Restoring the seed hoard is a local housekeeping ritual.

Rhythm

Updates and the living studio

Crel may receive updates that polish the refraction view, refine glyphs, widen motif lore, improve performance, or clarify wording in rooms like Provenance. Updates arrive through the usual app store channels for your platform. After an update, take a slow turn through the vault; light may fall differently on familiar stones.

Features described in this charter reflect the spirit of the current jewel box: sealing, spinning, inspecting, optic play, ledger milestones, and polish-room tuning. Exact labels and layouts can shift as the atelier grows, but the promise stays the same — keepsakes, frozen in light, kept close to you.

Temperament

A calm craft space

Crel is built for unhurried making. Slow drift lets crystals turn while idle. The sealing chime is a soft note, not an alarm. Glow tuning adjusts halo and sparkle dust so the case lining feels gentle on the eyes. None of these are obligations; they are dials on a workbench.

If a feature ever feels too bright, too busy, or too loud, pull the matching dial back in the Polish Room or pause a recording. The studio should serve the keepsake, not the other way around.

Shared device

Families, benches, and borrowed phones

Because there is no separate Crel login, a shared device shares one vault. If you lend your phone, your crystals are visible the same way a shared sketchbook would be. If you craft keepsakes for a gift, consider exporting a still and clearing drafts you do not want left behind. Voice memos and photos attached to gems are part of that local case.

On tablets used by several people in one household, agree together which motifs and photos belong in the common hoard. Crel will not referee that conversation; it simply holds what you seal.

Exports

Taking light with you

When you export a crystal still, you create a flat image that can live in your photo library. That export is yours to keep in albums, print as a small card, or send to someone who will understand why a bubble cloud matters. Crel does not automatically publish exports anywhere.

Rendered crystals include the motif or photo you chose, the cut, tint, and bubble character of that sealing. Treat exports of other people’s likenesses with the same courtesy you would use for any personal photograph.

Integrity of craft

Authenticity of the jewel box

Glyphs, motifs, and the refraction playfield are part of Crel’s handmade character. You are welcome to enjoy them, screenshot your own vault for personal journals, and talk about your process. Please do not strip the renderer out to misrepresent another product as Crel, and do not use the Crel name on a different studio that is not this app.

Milestone titles such as First Frost, Gemsmith, or Bubble Warden are poetic craft markers inside your ledger. They are not transferable badges and they are not sold as status tokens.

When things crack

Support and soft landings

If a sealing rite fails to finish, a photo fails to attach, or a crystal will not spin the way you expect, try the gentle sequence first: leave the screen and return, confirm the permission doorway is open, and check that the device has space for local files. Restoring the seed hoard will discard your changed vault and refill starters — use it only when you truly want a clean case.

For questions about how a room works, or to tell us that a facet feels wrong, write to the studio contact below. Describe what you were sealing, which cut you chose, and what the screen did next. Small details help us polish the box.

Keeping the charter honest

We may refresh this Companion Charter when Crel gains new rooms, changes how local storage is arranged, or needs clearer language about optional sensors. The newest edition lives with the app materials you are reading now. Continuing to seal and spin after an update means you are walking with the current map of the studio.

Thank you for treating Crel as a careful jewel box. May every bubble you trap feel intentional, and may every turn of the crystal find a kinder angle of light.
